{"cve":"CVE-2026-50290","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-21T20:16:36.220","modified":"2026-10-14T19:10:00.297","status":"Deferred","description":"SpecifyJS is a declarative TypeScript user interface framework. Prior to version 0.2.136, CSS value sanitization stripped `expression(` and `url(javascript:` using simple regex, but could be bypassed with CSS unicode escapes (`\\65xpression(`), null bytes, or CSS comments (`exp/**/ression(`). These CSS injection vectors only work in legacy browsers (IE6-IE10). SpecifyJS targets modern browsers. Starting in version 0.2.136, CSS sanitization now normalizes unicode escapes and strips CSS comments before pattern matching. Also checks for `behavior:`, `-moz-binding`, and `-o-link` patterns.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N","score":5.3},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/asymmetric-effort/specifyjs/commit/25d1fb491d99479efdf501f5f75e0bb80c908f0a","https://github.com/asymmetric-effort/specifyjs/security/advisories/GHSA-93q6-wwjh-jc6h"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:49:38.260478770+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-50290","score":0.00489,"percentile":0.4181,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-93q6-wwjh-jc6h","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-93q6-wwjh-jc6h","summary":"@asymmetric-effort/specifyjs: CSS expression sanitization is bypassable in renderToString","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:11.288040472Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@asymmetric-effort/specifyjs","purl":"pkg:npm/%40asymmetric-effort/specifyjs","ranges":["<0.2.136"],"fixed":["0.2.136"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
