{"cve":"CVE-2026-50024","nvd":{"published":"2026-09-15T16:17:12.387","modified":"2026-09-30T17:51:56.193","status":"Deferred","description":"GitHacker is a tool that restores Git repositories from exposed .git directories. In 1.1.7 and earlier, add_head_file_tasks parses an attacker-controlled ref path from .git/HEAD and joins unvalidated path segments onto temp_dst/.git/logs/, allowing a malicious server to make GitHacker read an arbitrary local file when a victim runs the tool against the server's URL. add_hashes_parsed then scans the file for 40-character hexadecimal substrings and requests each match through .git/objects using the first two characters and remaining characters as path components, creating an attacker-observable existence oracle and disclosing matching hexadecimal fragments. Complete file contents are not returned, and the add_folder and add_task write path in shipped version 1.1.7 does not permit an escape. This issue is fixed in repository version 1.1.9.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-23"],"references":["https://github.com/WangYihang/GitHacker/commit/16fcd81a9c3dfdf39713fde360d4e8bc3acf99e7","https://github.com/WangYihang/GitHacker/commit/5f2a8ba4d451c6a1a465893507fbc42535a9d8c8","https://github.com/WangYihang/GitHacker/pull/65","https://github.com/WangYihang/GitHacker/security/advisories/GHSA-hr3m-4qwq-3mgc"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:53:43.293028046+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-50024","score":0.00451,"percentile":0.38947,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-hr3m-4qwq-3mgc","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-hr3m-4qwq-3mgc","summary":"GitHacker: Path traversal in ref/hash parsing enables existence oracle and hex-fragment exfiltration via malicious .git server","modified":"2026-09-10T12:25:29.103803439Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"githacker","purl":"pkg:pypi/githacker","ranges":["<1.1.8"],"fixed":["1.1.8"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3835","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3835","summary":"GitHacker: Path traversal in ref/hash parsing enables existence oracle and hex-fragment exfiltration via malicious .git server","modified":"2026-09-10T12:15:05.604348918Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"githacker","purl":"pkg:pypi/githacker","ranges":["<1.1.8"],"fixed":["1.1.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
