{"cve":"CVE-2026-49253","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-19T15:17:06.747","modified":"2026-10-27T13:10:00.360","status":"Deferred","description":"electerm is an open-sourced terminal/ssh/sftp/telnet/serialport/RDP/VNC/Spice/ftp client. Prior to 3.11.11, electerm uses remote-supplied filenames directly with path.join() while receiving Zmodem and Trzsz transfers. In src/app/server/zmodem.js, prepareReceiveFile() joins the filename to the user-selected save path, and in src/app/server/trzsz.js, getUniqueFilePath(), the openSaveFile() callback, and the savedFilePaths mapping construct destinations without sanitization. A malicious SSH server or remote shell can provide a filename containing traversal components such as ../escaped.txt or ../../.bashrc. When the victim accepts the transfer and selects a download directory, electerm can write outside that directory and overwrite files accessible to the desktop user, potentially changing sensitive configuration or impairing availability. This issue is fixed in version 3.11.11.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","score":7.1},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/electerm/electerm/commit/fde153d677a170c5816368f6586647f3af4ef284","https://github.com/electerm/electerm/releases/tag/v3.11.11","https://github.com/electerm/electerm/security/advisories/GHSA-38j7-23hf-9mhc","https://github.com/electerm/electerm/security/advisories/GHSA-38j7-23hf-9mhc"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-27T13:36:07.289888057+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-49253","score":0.00439,"percentile":0.3793,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-38j7-23hf-9mhc","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-38j7-23hf-9mhc","summary":"electerm has Path Traversal in Zmodem and Trzsz Download Filename Handling","modified":"2026-07-02T19:41:33.209044Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electerm","purl":"pkg:npm/electerm","ranges":["<3.11.11"],"fixed":["3.11.11"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
