It reads a geometry attribute into a fixed-size stack buffer without validating the attribute length. The attacker embeds the exploit as an oversized geometry attribute in a crafted NetCDF file. This achieves arbitrary code execution on the server running GDAL. This is in frmts/netcdf/netcdfsg.cpp.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-121"],"references":["https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/issues/14594","https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/issues/14594"],"products":["osgeo:gdal"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:36:28.938604137+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-49014","score":0.00102,"percentile":0.00925,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wphc-7cm7-8mf7","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wphc-7cm7-8mf7","summary":"GDAL: scanForGeometryContainers in the netCDF driver allows code execution via a stack-based buffer overflow","modified":"2026-07-01T18:26:13.624993475Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"gdal","purl":"pkg:pypi/gdal","ranges":[">=3.1.0 <3.13.1"],"fixed":["3.13.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-193","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-193","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-13T16:45:11.431168083Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"gdal","purl":"pkg:pypi/gdal","ranges":[">=3.1.0 <3.13.1"],"fixed":["3.13.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
