{"cve":"CVE-2026-45725","nvd":{"published":"2026-08-13T20:17:22.027","modified":"2026-09-18T20:09:01.757","status":"Deferred","description":"compliance-trestle is a tooling platform for managing compliance as code. Prior to versiions 3.12.2 and 4.0.3, the compliance-trestle library's remote fetching cache mechanism (HTTPSFetcher and SFTPFetcher) constructs the local cache file path from the URL path component without sanitizing path traversal sequences (`../`). When a remote OSCAL profile references a URL with traversal in its path, the HTTP response body is written to a location outside the intended cache directory, enabling arbitrary file write with attacker-controlled content to the filesystem. Versions 3.12.3 and 4.0.3 patch the issue.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":7.1},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-73"],"references":["https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/commit/89f4e53d159e8ff901da4d7c3b51c9556bd32ec0","https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/commit/9abc492329fcc8d0557182317de9bde854385da3","https://github.com/oscal-compass/compliance-trestle/security/advisories/GHSA-g3vg-vx23-3858","https://github.com/pypa/advisory-database/tree/main/vulns/compliance-trestle/PYSEC-2026-2424.yaml"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:48:17.459049833+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-45725","score":0.00466,"percentile":0.40357,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-g3vg-vx23-3858","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-g3vg-vx23-3858","summary":"compliance-trestle Remote Fetching Mechanism has an Arbitrary File Write via Cache Path Traversal","modified":"2026-07-13T16:43:46.877331490Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"compliance-trestle","purl":"pkg:pypi/compliance-trestle","ranges":[">=4.0.0 <4.0.3"],"fixed":["4.0.3"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"compliance-trestle","purl":"pkg:pypi/compliance-trestle","ranges":["<3.12.2"],"fixed":["3.12.2"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2424","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2424","summary":"compliance-trestle Remote Fetching Mechanism has an Arbitrary File Write via Cache Path Traversal","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:36.295214118Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"compliance-trestle","purl":"pkg:pypi/compliance-trestle","ranges":["<3.12.2",">=4.0.0 <4.0.3"],"fixed":["3.12.2","4.0.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
