From 3.0.0 to 4.9.0, the system test entrypoint canonicalizes a user-controlled file path with File.realpath, then checks whether the resolved path starts with the temp directory path. This is not a safe containment check because sibling directories can share the same string prefix. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.9.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-187"],"references":["https://github.com/ViewComponent/view_component/security/advisories/GHSA-hg3h-g7xc-f7vp","https://github.com/ViewComponent/view_component/security/advisories/GHSA-hg3h-g7xc-f7vp"],"products":["viewcomponent:view_component"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:36:28.938604137+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44837","score":0.00412,"percentile":0.35473,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-hg3h-g7xc-f7vp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-hg3h-g7xc-f7vp","summary":"view_component: System Test Entry Point Path Check Allows Sibling Directory Escape","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:47.065129392Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"view_component","purl":"pkg:gem/view_component","ranges":[">=3.0.0 <4.9.0"],"fixed":["4.9.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
