{"cve":"CVE-2026-44722","nvd":{"published":"2026-07-17T17:17:15.240","modified":"2026-10-24T20:10:00.137","status":"Deferred","description":"pyzipper is a replacement for Python's zipfile that can read and write AES encrypted zip files. Prior to 0.4.0, a Python operator precedence bug in pyzipper/zipfile_aes.py caused the AE-2 format to never be automatically selected during encryption, causing encrypted entries to be written in AE-1 format and exposing the plaintext CRC32 checksum in the ZIP header and, for unseekable zip archives, in the datadescripter section, allowing an attacker who possesses the archive to brute-force candidate plaintexts for small or low-entropy files by comparing CRC32 values. This issue is fixed in version 0.4.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":6.2},"cwes":["CWE-480"],"references":["https://github.com/danifus/pyzipper/commit/93ce88e7dfd1635443197dab3fb8d477cff579ae","https://github.com/danifus/pyzipper/releases/tag/v0.4.0","https://github.com/danifus/pyzipper/security/advisories/GHSA-crqm-m339-7m2p"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-25T17:50:08.599881581+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44722","score":0.00116,"percentile":0.01627,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-crqm-m339-7m2p","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-crqm-m339-7m2p","summary":"pyzipper has an encryption bypass for small files encrypted using it","modified":"2026-07-13T16:43:23.666634852Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pyzipper","purl":"pkg:pypi/pyzipper","ranges":["<0.4.0"],"fixed":["0.4.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3044","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3044","summary":"pyzipper has an encryption bypass for small files encrypted using it","modified":"2026-07-13T16:33:29.755113578Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pyzipper","purl":"pkg:pypi/pyzipper","ranges":["<0.4.0"],"fixed":["0.4.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
