{"cve":"CVE-2026-44691","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-18T16:16:54.097","modified":"2026-10-26T11:10:00.157","status":"Analyzed","description":"In Eclipse Theia versions prior to 1.69.0, custom task definitions in workspace files (e.g. .theia/tasks.json, .vscode/tasks.json) could be executed without requiring workspace trust. An attacker could craft a malicious repository that, when cloned and opened in Theia, leads to execution of arbitrary commands with the user's privileges. In combination with AI chat features and a workspace .theia/settings.json that disabled tool confirmation, this could be triggered automatically by sending a message in the AI chat.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.4},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-829"],"references":["https://gitlab.eclipse.org/security/cve-assignment/-/work_items/116"],"products":["eclipse:theia"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T11:33:08.859761529+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44691","score":0.00408,"percentile":0.34847,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-g9jw-92q7-g7fj","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-g9jw-92q7-g7fj","summary":"[Eclipse Theia] Arbitrary Command Execution via Untrusted Workspace Task Definitions","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:08.792591255Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@theia/debug","purl":"pkg:npm/%40theia/debug","ranges":["<1.69.0"],"fixed":["1.69.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@theia/task","purl":"pkg:npm/%40theia/task","ranges":["<1.69.0"],"fixed":["1.69.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@theia/workspace","purl":"pkg:npm/%40theia/workspace","ranges":["<1.69.0"],"fixed":["1.69.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
