Prior to 3.26.0, a malicious RDP server can trigger a heap-buffer-overflow write in the FreeRDP client by sending crafted RDPGFX PDUs. The bug is in gdi_CacheToSurface: it validates a destination rectangle that is clamped to UINT16_MAX, but then performs the copy using the original cacheEntry->width/height. This can cause a large out-of-bounds heap write and may lead to client crashes or code execution. This bug is reachable from a malicious RDP server, but only when the client has RDPGFX enabled. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.26.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-122","CWE-787"],"references":["https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/security/advisories/GHSA-p6r2-4hgm-m6ff","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:36203","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:46393","https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-44421","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2483471"],"products":["freerdp:freerdp"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:37:48.043517290+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44421","score":0.00507,"percentile":0.43277,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
