Prior to 1.3.12, on Windows, a URI using backslash traversal (e.g. \\..\\..\\ secret.txt) bypasses the directory traversal check in Template.__init__ and the posixpath-based normalization in TemplateLookup.get_template(), allowing reads of files outside the configured template directory. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.3.12.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/sqlalchemy/mako/commit/72e10c573ca0fbcbddd4455abca8ce92a61780d7","https://github.com/sqlalchemy/mako/issues/435","https://github.com/sqlalchemy/mako/releases/tag/rel_1_3_12","https://github.com/sqlalchemy/mako/security/advisories/GHSA-2h4p-vjrc-8xpq"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T14:27:29.784594657+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44307","score":0.00742,"percentile":0.54382,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-2h4p-vjrc-8xpq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-2h4p-vjrc-8xpq","summary":"Mako vulnerable to path traversal via backslash URI on Windows in TemplateLookup","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:45.452547864Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"mako","purl":"pkg:pypi/mako","ranges":["<1.3.12"],"fixed":["1.3.12"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2617","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2617","summary":"Mako vulnerable to path traversal via backslash URI on Windows in TemplateLookup","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:12.378322773Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"mako","purl":"pkg:pypi/mako","ranges":["<1.3.12"],"fixed":["1.3.12"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
