Prior to 1.2.1 and 2.0.2, pbjs static code generation could emit unsafe JavaScript identifiers derived from schema-controlled names. When generating static JavaScript from a crafted schema or JSON descriptor, certain namespace, enum, service, or derived full names could be written into the generated output without sufficient sanitization. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.2.1 and 2.0.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":8.7},"cwes":["CWE-94"],"references":["https://github.com/protobufjs/protobuf.js/security/advisories/GHSA-6r35-46g8-jcw9"],"products":["protobufjs_project:protobufjs-cli"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:35:16.954578616+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44295","score":0.00395,"percentile":0.33771,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6r35-46g8-jcw9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6r35-46g8-jcw9","summary":"protobuf.js: Code injection in pbjs static output from crafted schema names","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:45.796208836Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"protobufjs-cli","purl":"pkg:npm/protobufjs-cli","ranges":["<1.2.1"],"fixed":["1.2.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"protobufjs-cli","purl":"pkg:npm/protobufjs-cli","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <2.0.2"],"fixed":["2.0.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
