Prior to 7.5.6 and 8.0.2, protobufjs generated message constructors copied enumerable properties from a provided properties object without filtering the __proto__ key. If an application constructed a message from an attacker-controlled plain object, an own enumerable __proto__ property could alter the prototype of that individual message instance. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.5.6 and 8.0.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-1321"],"references":["https://github.com/protobufjs/protobuf.js/security/advisories/GHSA-fx83-v9x8-x52w"],"products":["protobufjs_project:protobufjs"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:35:16.954578616+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44292","score":0.00264,"percentile":0.18325,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-fx83-v9x8-x52w","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-fx83-v9x8-x52w","summary":"protobuf.js: Prototype injection in generated message constructors","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:46.906669690Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"protobufjs","purl":"pkg:npm/protobufjs","ranges":["<7.5.6"],"fixed":["7.5.6"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"protobufjs","purl":"pkg:npm/protobufjs","ranges":[">=8.0.0 <8.0.2"],"fixed":["8.0.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
