From 0.6.1 to before 0.20.0, there is a a Token Injection vulnerability in vLLM’s multimodal processing. Unauthenticated, text-only prompts that spell special tokens are interpreted as control. Image and video placeholder sequences supplied without matching data cause vLLM to index into empty grids during input-position computation, raising an unhandled IndexError and terminating the worker or degrading availability. Multimodal paths that rely on image_grid_thw/video_grid_thw are affected. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.20.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-129"],"references":["https://github.com/vllm-project/vllm/issues/32656","https://github.com/vllm-project/vllm/security/advisories/GHSA-hpv8-x276-m59f"],"products":["vllm:vllm"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:35:16.954578616+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44222","score":0.00414,"percentile":0.35701,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-hpv8-x276-m59f","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-hpv8-x276-m59f","summary":"vLLM Vulnerable to Remote DoS via Special-Token Placeholders","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:05.984430278Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"vllm","purl":"pkg:pypi/vllm","ranges":[">=0.6.1 <0.20.0"],"fixed":["0.20.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-3409","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-3409","summary":"vLLM Vulnerable to Remote DoS via Special-Token Placeholders","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:29.457115336Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"vllm","purl":"pkg:pypi/vllm","ranges":[">=0.6.1 <0.20.0"],"fixed":["0.20.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
