{"cve":"CVE-2026-4408","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-28T09:16:47.643","modified":"2026-10-26T11:10:00.157","status":"Modified","description":"A flaw was found in Samba. A remote attacker can exploit a misconfiguration in Samba file servers and classic domain controllers that use the \"check password script\" feature. If this script is configured with the %u substitution character, the client-controlled username is passed without proper escaping of shell meta-characters. This vulnerability allows an attacker to achieve remote command execution on the affected system. This issue primarily affects non-standard configurations where the \"check password script\" is used with %u and the samba-dcerpcd service is started as a system service.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:22644","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:22963","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:25049","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:25979","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:28053"],"products":["redhat:enterprise_linux","redhat:openshift_container_platform","samba:samba"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T11:33:08.859761529+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-4408","score":0.02501,"percentile":0.84587,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
