{"cve":"CVE-2026-44007","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-13T18:16:17.527","modified":"2026-10-26T17:10:03.270","status":"Modified","description":"vm2 is an open source vm/sandbox for Node.js. Prior to 3.11.1, when a NodeVM is created with nesting: true, sandbox code can unconditionally require('vm2') regardless of the outer VM's require configuration — including require: false. With access to vm2, the sandbox constructs a new inner NodeVM with its own unrestricted require settings and executes arbitrary OS commands on the host. Any application that runs untrusted code inside a NodeVM with nesting: true is fully compromised. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.11.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.1},"cwes":["CWE-284","CWE-1100"],"references":["https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/security/advisories/GHSA-8hg8-63c5-gwmx","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2026/05/05/11","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:50850","https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-44007","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2477198"],"products":["vm2_project:vm2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T17:39:09.812804557+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44007","score":0.0096,"percentile":0.61301,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8hg8-63c5-gwmx","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8hg8-63c5-gwmx","summary":"vm2 NodeVM `nesting: true` bypasses `require: false` allowing sandbox escape and arbitrary OS command execution","modified":"2026-05-14T20:50:12.713627Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"vm2","purl":"pkg:npm/vm2","ranges":["<3.11.1"],"fixed":["3.11.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
