{"cve":"CVE-2026-44000","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-13T18:16:16.590","modified":"2026-10-26T17:10:03.270","status":"Analyzed","description":"vm2 is an open source vm/sandbox for Node.js. Prior to 3.11.0, a sandbox boundary violation in vm2 allows host object identity to cross into the sandbox through host Promise resolution. When a host-side Promise that resolves to a host object is exposed to the sandbox, the value delivered to the sandbox .then() callback preserves host identity. This allows the sandbox to interact with the host object directly, including performing identity checks using host-side WeakMap and mutating host object state from inside the sandbox. This behavior occurs because the Promise fulfillment wrapper uses ensureThis() instead of the stronger cross-realm conversion path (from() / proxy wrapping). If no prototype mapping is found, ensureThis() returns the original object. As a result, objects resolved by host Promises can cross the sandbox boundary without proper isolation. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.11.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":7.2},"cwes":["CWE-693"],"references":["https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/security/advisories/GHSA-mpf8-4hx2-7cjg","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/security/advisories/GHSA-mpf8-4hx2-7cjg"],"products":["vm2_project:vm2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T17:39:09.812804557+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-44000","score":0.002,"percentile":0.09792,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-mpf8-4hx2-7cjg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-mpf8-4hx2-7cjg","summary":"vm2 Host Promise Resolution Preserves Object Identity Across Sandbox Boundary","modified":"2026-05-14T20:51:05.427515Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"vm2","purl":"pkg:npm/vm2","ranges":["<3.11.0"],"fixed":["3.11.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
