{"cve":"CVE-2026-43893","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-11T22:22:14.033","modified":"2026-10-26T18:10:00.173","status":"Deferred","description":"exiftool-vendored provides cross-platform Node.js access to ExifTool. Prior to 35.19.0, exiftool-vendored starts ExifTool in -stay_open True -@ - mode, where arguments are read from stdin one per line. In affected versions, several caller-supplied strings were interpolated into ExifTool arguments without rejecting line delimiters. A newline or carriage return inside one of those strings could split a single intended argument into multiple ExifTool arguments, allowing argument injection. The fix also rejects NUL bytes as unsafe control characters. Applications that pass attacker-controlled strings to affected APIs may allow an attacker to make ExifTool read files accessible to the ExifTool process, or write output to attacker-chosen file system paths accessible to that process. No remote code execution has been demonstrated. This vulnerability is fixed in 35.19.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:N","score":8.2},"cwes":["CWE-88"],"references":["https://github.com/photostructure/exiftool-vendored.js/security/advisories/GHSA-cw26-7653-2rp5"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T18:27:13.530666824+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-43893","score":0.00485,"percentile":0.41471,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-cw26-7653-2rp5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cw26-7653-2rp5","summary":"exiftool-vendored vulnerable to argument injection via newline characters in tag names","modified":"2026-05-13T14:34:31.407220Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"exiftool-vendored","purl":"pkg:npm/exiftool-vendored","ranges":["<35.19.0"],"fixed":["35.19.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
