{"cve":"CVE-2026-42945","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-13T16:16:50.190","modified":"2026-10-26T14:10:00.130","status":"Modified","description":"NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source have a vulnerability in the ngx_http_rewrite_module module. This vulnerability exists when the rewrite directive is followed by a rewrite, if, or set directive and an unnamed Perl-Compatible Regular Expression (PCRE) capture (for example, $1, $2) with a replacement string that includes a question mark (?). An unauthenticated attacker along with conditions beyond its control can exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted HTTP requests. This may cause a heap buffer overflow in the NGINX worker process leading to a restart. Additionally, attackers can execute code on systems with Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) disabled or when the attacker can bypass ASLR.  Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":9.2},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-122","CWE-131"],"references":["https://my.f5.com/manage/s/article/K000161019","https://depthfirst.com/nginx-rift","https://github.com/DepthFirstDisclosures/Nginx-Rift","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:17417","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:17751"],"products":["f5:dos","f5:nginx_gateway_fabric","f5:nginx_ingress_controller","f5:nginx_instance_manager","f5:nginx_open_source","f5:nginx_plus","f5:waf"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T14:27:29.784594657+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42945","score":0.68047,"percentile":0.9932,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
