{"cve":"CVE-2026-42890","nvd":{"published":"2026-06-12T20:16:45.580","modified":"2026-10-26T11:10:00.157","status":"Deferred","description":"Actual is an open-source personal finance application. In the macOS desktop application version 25.x (built on Electron 39.2.7), the ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE fuse is not disabled, allowing an attacker who can place a file on disk or control command-line arguments to invoke the signed Actual.app binary with the ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE=1 environment variable set. This converts the application into a Node.js REPL capable of executing arbitrary code that inherits the application's entitlements and code signature, bypassing macOS Gatekeeper review. Version 26.5.0 patches the issue.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":4.8},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-94"],"references":["https://actualbudget.org/blog/release-26.5.0","https://github.com/actualbudget/actual/security/advisories/GHSA-7rvm-xjpp-63r9"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T11:33:08.859761529+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42890","score":0.00126,"percentile":0.02291,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-7rvm-xjpp-63r9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-7rvm-xjpp-63r9","summary":"actual Allows Electron to Run As Node","modified":"2026-06-12T22:15:09.910584087Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"actual","purl":"pkg:npm/actual","ranges":["<26.5.0"],"fixed":["26.5.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
