{"cve":"CVE-2026-4258","nvd":{"published":"2026-03-17T06:16:18.590","modified":"2026-07-28T16:18:22.213","status":"Modified","description":"Versions of the package sjcl before 1.0.9 are vulnerable to Improper Verification of Cryptographic Signature due to missing point-on-curve validation in sjcl.ecc.basicKey.publicKey(). An attacker can recover a victim's ECDH private key by sending crafted off-curve public keys and observing ECDH outputs. The dhJavaEc() function directly returns the raw x-coordinate of the scalar multiplication result (no hashing), providing a plaintext oracle without requiring any decryption feedback.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P","score":7.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-347","CWE-325"],"references":["https://gist.github.com/Kr0emer/2560f98edb10b0b34f2438cd63913c47","https://github.com/bitwiseshiftleft/sjcl/blob/master/core/ecc.js%23L454-L461","https://github.com/bitwiseshiftleft/sjcl/commit/ee307459972442a17beebc29dc331fffd8aff796","https://security.snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-JAVA-ORGWEBJARSNPM-15751243","https://security.snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-JS-SJCL-15369617"],"products":["bitwiseshiftleft:stanford_javascript_crypto_library"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:26:19.218427112+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-4258","score":0.00255,"percentile":0.1717,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-2w8x-224x-785m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-2w8x-224x-785m","summary":"sjcl is missing point-on-curve validation in sjcl.ecc.basicKey.publicKey","modified":"2026-03-25T14:46:29.609642Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"sjcl","purl":"pkg:npm/sjcl","ranges":["<1.0.9"],"fixed":["1.0.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
