Prior to 0.5.1, an open redirect vulnerability exists in AuthService.handleCallback due to insufficient validation of the returnPathname value derived from the OAuth state parameter. The state parameter is round-tripped through the identity provider (IdP) and can be influenced by an attacker. The handleCallback function decodes and returns returnPathname without enforcing restrictions on origin or scheme. As a result, attacker-controlled values may be returned to the application. If this value is used directly in a redirect, it may cause the user to be redirected to an external, attacker-controlled site. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.5.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":4.3},"cwes":["CWE-601"],"references":["https://github.com/workos/authkit-session/commit/f56e1d6214a93160759e5677b7a3d772b244db39","https://github.com/workos/authkit-session/releases/tag/v0.5.1","https://github.com/workos/authkit-session/security/advisories/GHSA-vvvv-983w-r7pv"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T18:27:13.530666824+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42565","score":0.00194,"percentile":0.08956,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vvvv-983w-r7pv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vvvv-983w-r7pv","summary":"@workos/authkit-session has an Open Redirect via state-derived redirect target","modified":"2026-05-13T14:33:35.804976Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@workos/authkit-session","purl":"pkg:npm/%40workos/authkit-session","ranges":["<0.5.1"],"fixed":["0.5.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
