{"cve":"CVE-2026-42327","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-14T21:16:45.430","modified":"2026-06-17T10:47:41.687","status":"Deferred","description":"rust-openssl provides OpenSSL bindings for the Rust programming language. From 0.9.7 to before 0.10.79, X509Ref::ocsp_responders returns OCSP responder URLs from a certificate's AIA extension as OpensslString, whose Deref<Target = str> wraps the raw bytes with str::from_utf8_unchecked. OpenSSL does not enforce that the underlying IA5String is ASCII, so a certificate with non-UTF-8 bytes in its OCSP accessLocation causes safe Rust code to construct a &str that violates the UTF-8 invariant — resulting in undefined behavior. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.10.79.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-20"],"references":["https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/security/advisories/GHSA-xp3w-r5p5-63rr"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:35:16.954578616+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42327","score":0.00211,"percentile":0.11309,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xp3w-r5p5-63rr","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xp3w-r5p5-63rr","summary":"rust-openssl has undefined behavior in X509Ref::ocsp_responders for certificates with non-UTF-8 OCSP URLs","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:07.254489393Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl","ranges":[">=0.9.7 <0.10.79"],"fixed":["0.10.79"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
