{"cve":"CVE-2026-42271","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-08T04:16:21.820","modified":"2026-10-26T20:10:00.160","status":"Analyzed","description":"LiteLLM is a proxy server (AI Gateway) to call LLM APIs in OpenAI (or native) format. From version 1.74.2 to before version 1.83.7, two endpoints used to preview an MCP server before saving it — POST /mcp-rest/test/connection and POST /mcp-rest/test/tools/list — accepted a full server configuration in the request body, including the command, args, and env fields used by the stdio transport. When called with a stdio configuration, the endpoints attempted to connect, which spawned the supplied command as a subprocess on the proxy host with the privileges of the proxy process. The endpoints were gated only by a valid proxy API key, with no role check. Any authenticated user — including holders of low-privilege internal-user keys — could therefore run arbitrary commands on the host. This issue has been patched in version 1.83.7.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-77","CWE-78"],"references":["https://github.com/BerriAI/litellm/releases/tag/v1.83.7-stable","https://github.com/BerriAI/litellm/security/advisories/GHSA-v4p8-mg3p-g94g","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:27784","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:28960","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:30056"],"products":["litellm:litellm","redhat:openshift_ai"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T20:34:58.897451322+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42271","score":0.91445,"percentile":0.99811,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42271","date_added":"2026-06-08","due_date":"2026-06-22","vendor":"BerriAI","product":"LiteLLM","known_ransomware":false},"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v4p8-mg3p-g94g","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v4p8-mg3p-g94g","summary":"LiteLLM: Authenticated command execution via MCP stdio test endpoints","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:03.195872876Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"litellm","purl":"pkg:pypi/litellm","ranges":[">=1.74.2 <1.83.7"],"fixed":["1.83.7"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2599","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2599","summary":"LiteLLM: Authenticated command execution via MCP stdio test endpoints","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:04.086728418Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"litellm","purl":"pkg:pypi/litellm","ranges":[">=1.74.2 <1.83.7"],"fixed":["1.83.7"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
