{"cve":"CVE-2026-42216","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-07T04:16:34.220","modified":"2026-10-26T19:10:00.163","status":"Modified","description":"OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. From versions 3.0.0 to before 3.2.9, 3.3.0 to before 3.3.11, and 3.4.0 to before 3.4.11, IDManifest::init() reconstructs strings from a prefix-compressed representation. If the previous string is longer than 255 bytes, the next string is expected to begin with a 2-byte prefix length. The code reads stringList[i][0] and stringList[i][1] without checking that the current string has at least two bytes. This issue has been patched in versions 3.2.9, 3.3.11, and 3.4.11.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.8},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H","score":9.1},"cwes":["CWE-125","CWE-130"],"references":["https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-65j8-95g9-jgj4","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:38498","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:38499","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:39024","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:39025"],"products":["openexr:openexr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T19:31:02.781428341+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42216","score":0.00465,"percentile":0.39983,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
