{"cve":"CVE-2026-42081","nvd":{"published":"2026-05-27T17:16:34.967","modified":"2026-10-14T20:10:00.190","status":"Analyzed","description":"free5GC is an open-source implementation of the 5G core network. Prior to 4.2.2, the AMF in Free5GC does not verify the UE Security Capabilities received in NGAP PathSwitchRequest messages against its locally stored values, as mandated by 3GPP TS 33.501 §6.7.3.1. A malicious gNB can overwrite the AMF's stored UE security capabilities with arbitrary values, which are then propagated in PathSwitchRequest Acknowledge messages and subsequent Handover Request messages. This leads to persistent handover denial-of-service for affected UEs. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.2.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:H","score":7.1},"cwes":["CWE-358"],"references":["https://github.com/free5gc/free5gc/security/advisories/GHSA-77x9-rf64-92gv","https://github.com/free5gc/free5gc/security/advisories/GHSA-77x9-rf64-92gv"],"products":["free5gc:free5gc"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:36:28.938604137+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-42081","score":0.00266,"percentile":0.1858,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-77x9-rf64-92gv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-77x9-rf64-92gv","summary":"Free5GC AMF Bypasses UE Security Capabilities on NGAP PathSwitchRequest","modified":"2026-06-25T19:56:07.170585261Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/free5gc/amf","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/free5gc/amf","ranges":["<=1.4.3"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-5209","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-5209","summary":"Free5GC AMF Bypasses UE Security Capabilities on NGAP PathSwitchRequest in github.com/free5gc/amf","modified":"2026-06-25T19:45:15.232400005Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/free5gc/amf","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/free5gc/amf","ranges":["all versions"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
