{"cve":"CVE-2026-41898","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-24T18:16:29.860","modified":"2026-07-15T16:17:15.797","status":"Analyzed","description":"rust-openssl provides OpenSSL bindings for the Rust programming language. From 0.9.24 to before 0.10.78, the FFI trampolines behind SslContextBuilder::set_psk_client_callback, set_psk_server_callback, set_cookie_generate_cb, and set_stateless_cookie_generate_cb forwarded the user closure's returned usize directly to OpenSSL without checking it against the &mut [u8] that was handed to the closure. This can lead to buffer overflows and other unintended consequences. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.10.78.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.3},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-126","CWE-130"],"references":["https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/commit/1d109020d98fff2fb2e45c39a373af3dff99b24c","https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/pull/2607","https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/releases/tag/openssl-v0.10.78","https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/security/advisories/GHSA-hppc-g8h3-xhp3"],"products":["rust-openssl_project:rust-openssl"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:33:09.003606135+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41898","score":0.0028,"percentile":0.20585,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-hppc-g8h3-xhp3","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-hppc-g8h3-xhp3","summary":"rust-openssl: Unchecked callback length in PSK/cookie trampolines leaks adjacent memory to peer","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:02.103657748Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl","ranges":[">=0.9.24 <0.10.78"],"fixed":["0.10.78"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
