{"cve":"CVE-2026-41678","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-24T18:16:29.420","modified":"2026-07-17T19:24:37.190","status":"Analyzed","description":"rust-openssl provides OpenSSL bindings for the Rust programming language. From to before 0.10.78, aes::unwrap_key() contains an incorrect assertion: it checks that out.len() + 8 <= in_.len(), but this condition is reversed. The intended invariant is out.len() >= in_.len() - 8, ensuring the output buffer is large enough. Because of the inverted check, the function only accepts buffers at or below the minimum required size and rejects larger ones. If a smaller buffer is provided the function will write past the end of out by in_.len() - 8 - out.len() bytes, causing an out-of-bounds write from a safe public function. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.10.78.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U","score":7.2},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://github.com/rust-openssl/rust-openssl/security/advisories/GHSA-8c75-8mhr-p7r9"],"products":["rust-openssl_project:rust-openssl"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:33:09.003606135+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41678","score":0.00251,"percentile":0.16542,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8c75-8mhr-p7r9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8c75-8mhr-p7r9","summary":"rust-openssl has incorrect bounds assertion in aes key wrap","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:43.807790048Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl","ranges":[">=0.10.24 <0.10.78"],"fixed":["0.10.78"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
