Prior to zebrad version 4.3.1 and prior to zebra-script version 5.0.2, after a refactoring, Zebra failed to validate a consensus rule that restricted the possible values of sighash hash types for V5 transactions which were enabled in the NU5 network upgrade. Zebra nodes could thus accept and eventually mine a block that would be considered invalid by zcashd nodes, creating a consensus split between Zebra and zcashd nodes. In a similar vein, for V4 transactions, Zebra mistakenly used the \"canonical\" hash type when computing the sighash while zcashd (correctly per the spec) uses the raw value, which could also crate a consensus split. This issue has been patched in zebrad version 4.3.1 and zebra-script version 5.0.2.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:H/SA:H","score":9.3},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":9.1},"cwes":["CWE-573"],"references":["https://github.com/ZcashFoundation/zebra/security/advisories/GHSA-8m29-fpq5-89jj"],"products":["zfnd:zebra-script","zfnd:zebrad"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T18:27:13.530666824+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41583","score":0.00278,"percentile":0.20026,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8m29-fpq5-89jj","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8m29-fpq5-89jj","summary":"Zebra Vulnerable to Consensus Divergence in Transparent Sighash Hash-Type Handling","modified":"2026-05-12T17:16:16.171961Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"zebrad","purl":"pkg:cargo/zebrad","ranges":["<4.3.1"],"fixed":["4.3.1"]},{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"zebra-script","purl":"pkg:cargo/zebra-script","ranges":["<5.0.2"],"fixed":["5.0.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
