{"cve":"CVE-2026-41238","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-23T16:16:26.420","modified":"2026-10-26T22:10:00.163","status":"Deferred","description":"DOMPurify is a DOM-only cross-site scripting sanitizer for HTML, MathML, and SVG. Versions 3.0.1 through 3.3.3 are vulnerable to a prototype pollution-based XSS bypass. When an application uses `DOMPurify.sanitize()` with the default configuration (no `CUSTOM_ELEMENT_HANDLING` option), a prior prototype pollution gadget can inject permissive `tagNameCheck` and `attributeNameCheck` regex values into `Object.prototype`, causing DOMPurify to allow arbitrary custom elements with arbitrary attributes — including event handlers — through sanitization. Version 3.4.0 fixes the issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N","score":6.9},"cwes":["CWE-79","CWE-1321"],"references":["https://github.com/cure53/DOMPurify/releases/tag/3.4.0","https://github.com/cure53/DOMPurify/security/advisories/GHSA-v9jr-rg53-9pgp","https://github.com/cure53/DOMPurify/security/advisories/GHSA-v9jr-rg53-9pgp"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T22:26:44.656832877+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41238","score":0.00225,"percentile":0.13106,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v9jr-rg53-9pgp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v9jr-rg53-9pgp","summary":"DOMPurify: Prototype Pollution to XSS Bypass via CUSTOM_ELEMENT_HANDLING Fallback","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:03.414330043Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"dompurify","purl":"pkg:npm/dompurify","ranges":[">=3.0.1 <3.4.0"],"fixed":["3.4.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
