Prior to 6.1.6, the defineScriptVars function in Astro's server-side rendering pipeline uses a case-sensitive regex /<\\/script>/g to sanitize values injected into inline <script> tags via the define:vars directive. HTML parsers close <script> elements case-insensitively and also accept whitespace or / before the closing >, allowing an attacker to bypass the sanitization with payloads like </Script>, </script >, or </script/> and inject arbitrary HTML/JavaScript. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.1.6.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/withastro/astro/security/advisories/GHSA-j687-52p2-xcff","https://github.com/withastro/astro/security/advisories/GHSA-j687-52p2-xcff"],"products":["astro:astro"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T22:26:44.656832877+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41067","score":0.00189,"percentile":0.08441,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-j687-52p2-xcff","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-j687-52p2-xcff","summary":"Astro: XSS in define:vars via incomplete </script> tag sanitization","modified":"2026-05-05T16:07:54.660860Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"astro","purl":"pkg:npm/astro","ranges":["<6.1.6"],"fixed":["6.1.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
