Prior to 6.1.0, using either of the two parsers in the default configuration (with resolve_entities=True) allows untrusted XML input to read local files. Setting the resolve_entities option explicitly to resolve_entities='internal' or resolve_entities=False disables the local file access. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.1.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-611"],"references":["https://bugs.launchpad.net/lxml/+bug/2146291","https://github.com/lxml/lxml/security/advisories/GHSA-vfmq-68hx-4jfw"],"products":["lxml:lxml"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:33:09.003606135+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41066","score":0.00324,"percentile":0.2553,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vfmq-68hx-4jfw","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vfmq-68hx-4jfw","summary":"lxml: Default configuration of iterparse() and ETCompatXMLParser() allows XXE to local files","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:03.302383702Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"lxml","purl":"pkg:pypi/lxml","ranges":["<6.1.0"],"fixed":["6.1.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-87","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-87","summary":"","modified":"2026-05-20T09:19:06.179641Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"lxml","purl":"pkg:pypi/lxml","ranges":["<6.1.0"],"fixed":["6.1.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
