{"cve":"CVE-2026-41016","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-30T10:16:01.930","modified":"2026-10-26T21:10:00.170","status":"Analyzed","description":"Apache Airflow's SMTP provider `SmtpHook` called Python's `smtplib.SMTP.starttls()` without an SSL context, so no certificate validation was performed on the TLS upgrade. A man-in-the-middle between the Airflow worker and the SMTP server could present a self-signed certificate, complete the STARTTLS upgrade, and capture the SMTP credentials sent during the subsequent `login()` call. Users are advised to upgrade to the `apache-airflow-providers-smtp` version that contains the fix.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-295"],"references":["https://github.com/apache/airflow/pull/65346","https://lists.apache.org/thread/gb202qy5r31bgdd3d51d7s5o1jh40kc4"],"products":["apache:airflow"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T21:38:48.864438205+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-41016","score":0.00268,"percentile":0.18764,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-x8mh-94wc-33gv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-x8mh-94wc-33gv","summary":"apache-airflow-providers-smtp: No certificate validation on SMTP STARTTLS connections in SMTP provider","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:03.971751299Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"apache-airflow-providers-smtp","purl":"pkg:pypi/apache-airflow-providers-smtp","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <3.0.0"],"fixed":["3.0.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-24","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-24","summary":"","modified":"2026-06-10T17:00:18.977806756Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"apache-airflow-providers-smtp","purl":"pkg:pypi/apache-airflow-providers-smtp","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <3.0.0"],"fixed":["3.0.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
