Prior to 1.16.0, when an HTTP request follows a cross-domain redirect (301/302/307/308), follow-redirects only strips authorization, proxy-authorization, and cookie headers (matched by regex at index.js). Any custom authentication header (e.g., X-API-Key, X-Auth-Token, Api-Key, Token) is forwarded verbatim to the redirect target. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.16.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.9},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-200","CWE-212"],"references":["https://github.com/follow-redirects/follow-redirects/security/advisories/GHSA-r4q5-vmmm-2653","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:13826","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:14937","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:16476","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:16532"],"products":["follow-redirects_project:follow-redirects"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:30:49.762551342+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-40895","score":0.00486,"percentile":0.41883,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r4q5-vmmm-2653","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r4q5-vmmm-2653","summary":"follow-redirects leaks Custom Authentication Headers to Cross-Domain Redirect Targets","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:02.887720750Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"follow-redirects","purl":"pkg:npm/follow-redirects","ranges":["<1.16.0"],"fixed":["1.16.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
