In 2.16 and earlier, there is a buffer overflow when decoding Opus audio frames due to insufficient buffer size validation in the Opus codec decode path. The FEC decode buffers (dec_frame[].buf) were allocated based on a PCM-derived formula: (sample_rate/1000) * 60 * channel_cnt * 2. At 8 kHz mono this yields only 960 bytes, but codec_parse() can output encoded frames up to MAX_ENCODED_PACKET_SIZE (1280) bytes via opus_repacketizer_out_range(). The three pj_memcpy() calls in codec_decode() copied input->size bytes without bounds checking, causing a heap buffer overflow.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.5},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-122"],"references":["https://github.com/pjsip/pjproject/commit/17897e835818f8ee03b1806ddcd7b95ea16d2c0e","https://github.com/pjsip/pjproject/security/advisories/GHSA-j59p-4xrr-fp8g"],"products":["pjsip:pjsip"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T21:38:48.864438205+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-40614","score":0.00224,"percentile":0.12944,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
