In versions prior to 0.24, Syscall 12 (JumpToUser) accepts an arbitrary entry point address from user-space registers without validation, allowing any Ring 3 user-mode process to jump to kernel addresses and execute arbitrary code in Ring 0 context, resulting in local privilege escalation. This issue has been fixed in version 0.24. If developers are unable to immediately update, they should restrict syscall access by running the system in single-user mode without Ring 3, and disable user-mode processes by only running kernel shell with no user processes. This issue has been fixed in version 0.24.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.3},"cwes":["CWE-20","CWE-269"],"references":["https://github.com/MinecAnton209/NovumOS/releases/tag/v0.24","https://github.com/MinecAnton209/NovumOS/security/advisories/GHSA-xjx3-gjh9-45fm","https://github.com/MinecAnton209/NovumOS/security/advisories/GHSA-xjx3-gjh9-45fm"],"products":["minecanton209:novumos"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T21:38:48.864438205+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-40317","score":0.00225,"percentile":0.13123,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
