{"cve":"CVE-2026-40288","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-14T04:17:12.210","modified":"2026-10-26T22:10:00.163","status":"Analyzed","description":"PraisonAI is a multi-agent teams system. In versions below 4.5.139 of PraisonAI and 1.5.140 of praisonaiagents, the workflow engine is vulnerable to arbitrary command and code execution through untrusted YAML files. When praisonai workflow run <file.yaml> loads a YAML file with type: job, the JobWorkflowExecutor in job_workflow.py processes steps that support run: (shell commands via subprocess.run()), script: (inline Python via exec()), and python: (arbitrary Python script execution)—all without any validation, sandboxing, or user confirmation. The affected code paths include action_run() in workflow.py and _exec_shell(), _exec_inline_python(), and _exec_python_script() in job_workflow.py. An attacker who can supply or influence a workflow YAML file (particularly in CI pipelines, shared repositories, or multi-tenant deployment environments) can achieve full arbitrary command execution on the host system, compromising the machine and any accessible data or credentials. This issue has been fixed in versions 4.5.139 of PraisonAI and 1.5.140 of praisonaiagents.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-78","CWE-94"],"references":["https://github.com/MervinPraison/PraisonAI/security/advisories/GHSA-vc46-vw85-3wvm"],"products":["praison:praisonai","praison:praisonaiagents"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T22:26:44.656832877+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-40288","score":0.00609,"percentile":0.48844,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vc46-vw85-3wvm","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vc46-vw85-3wvm","summary":"PraisonAI has critical RCE via `type: job` workflow YAML","modified":"2026-06-29T12:26:18.883289832Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"praisonaiagents","purl":"pkg:pypi/praisonaiagents","ranges":["<1.5.140"],"fixed":["1.5.140"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"praisonai","purl":"pkg:pypi/praisonai","ranges":["<4.5.139"],"fixed":["4.5.139"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-477","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-477","summary":"PraisonAI has critical RCE via `type: job` workflow YAML","modified":"2026-07-13T16:15:16.936763143Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"praisonai","purl":"pkg:pypi/praisonai","ranges":["<4.5.139"],"fixed":["4.5.139"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-488","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-488","summary":"PraisonAI has critical RCE via `type: job` workflow YAML","modified":"2026-07-13T16:15:16.470577469Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"praisonaiagents","purl":"pkg:pypi/praisonaiagents","ranges":["<1.5.140"],"fixed":["1.5.140"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
