{"cve":"CVE-2026-40093","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-09T21:16:11.937","modified":"2026-10-26T00:10:00.150","status":"Analyzed","description":"nimiq-blockchain provides persistent block storage for Nimiq's Rust implementation. In 1.3.0 and earlier, block timestamp validation enforces that timestamp >= parent.timestamp for non-skip blocks and timestamp == parent.timestamp + MIN_PRODUCER_TIMEOUT for skip blocks, but there is no visible upper bound check against the wall clock. A malicious block-producing validator can set block timestamps arbitrarily far in the future. This directly affects reward calculations via Policy::supply_at() and batch_delay() in blockchain/src/reward.rs, inflating the monetary supply beyond the intended emission schedule.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-1284"],"references":["https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/security/advisories/GHSA-49xc-52mp-cc9j"],"products":["nimiq:nimiq_proof-of-stake"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T00:31:35.753532240+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-40093","score":0.00314,"percentile":0.24078,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-49xc-52mp-cc9j","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-49xc-52mp-cc9j","summary":"nimiq-blockchain is missing a wall-clock upper bound on block timestamps","modified":"2026-04-10T20:11:22.935964Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"nimiq-blockchain","purl":"pkg:cargo/nimiq-blockchain","ranges":["<=1.3.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
