Prior to 2.0.75, a path traversal vulnerability in the rembg HTTP server allows unauthenticated remote attackers to read arbitrary files from the server's filesystem. By sending a crafted request with a malicious model_path parameter, an attacker can force the server to attempt loading any file as an ONNX model, revealing file existence, permissions, and potentially file contents through error messages. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.0.75.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-73"],"references":["https://github.com/danielgatis/rembg/commit/7c76d3cdc5757ffbda6a76664b24cfbecdb80273","https://github.com/danielgatis/rembg/releases/tag/v2.0.75","https://github.com/danielgatis/rembg/security/advisories/GHSA-3wqj-33cg-xc48"],"products":["danielgatis:rembg"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T22:26:44.656832877+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-40086","score":0.00592,"percentile":0.48019,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3wqj-33cg-xc48","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3wqj-33cg-xc48","summary":"Rembg has a Path Traversal via Custom Model Loading","modified":"2026-07-13T07:26:21.502912985Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"rembg","purl":"pkg:pypi/rembg","ranges":["<2.0.75"],"fixed":["2.0.75"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2274","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2274","summary":"","modified":"2026-07-13T07:15:43.992613858Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"rembg","purl":"pkg:pypi/rembg","ranges":["<2.0.75"],"fixed":["2.0.75"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
