{"cve":"CVE-2026-3995","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-16T07:16:30.503","modified":"2026-06-17T10:44:35.457","status":"Deferred","description":"The OPEN-BRAIN plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'API Key' settings field in all versions up to, and including, 0.5.0. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. The plugin uses sanitize_text_field() which strips HTML tags but does not encode double quotes or other HTML-special characters needed for safe attribute context output. The API key value is saved via update_option() and later output into an HTML input element's value attribute without esc_attr() escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Administrator-level access, to inject arbitrary web scripts via attribute breakout payloads (e.g., double quotes followed by event handlers) that execute whenever a user accesses the plugin settings page.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":4.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/open-brain/tags/0.5.0/index.php#L128","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/open-brain/tags/0.5.0/index.php#L252","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/open-brain/tags/0.5.0/index.php#L253","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/open-brain/tags/0.5.0/index.php#L272","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/open-brain/trunk/index.php#L128"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:30:49.762551342+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-3995","score":0.00345,"percentile":0.28128,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
