Prior to 8.39.0, the Executrix utility class constructed shell commands by concatenating configuration-derived values — including the PLACE_NAME parameter — with insufficient sanitization. Only spaces were replaced with underscores, allowing shell metacharacters (;, |, $, `, (, ), etc.) to pass through into /bin/sh -c command execution. This vulnerability is fixed in 8.39.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.2},"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://github.com/NationalSecurityAgency/emissary/security/advisories/GHSA-6c37-7w4p-jg9v"],"products":["nsa:emissary"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T21:38:48.864438205+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-35581","score":0.00563,"percentile":0.46559,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6c37-7w4p-jg9v","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6c37-7w4p-jg9v","summary":"Emissary has a Command Injection via PLACE_NAME Configuration in Executrix","modified":"2026-04-08T00:27:17.997202Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"gov.nsa.emissary:emissary","purl":"pkg:maven/gov.nsa.emissary/emissary","ranges":["<8.39.0"],"fixed":["8.39.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
