{"cve":"CVE-2026-35372","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-22T17:16:41.850","modified":"2026-10-26T21:10:00.170","status":"Analyzed","description":"A logic error in the ln utility of uutils coreutils allows the utility to dereference a symbolic link target even when the --no-dereference (or -n) flag is explicitly provided. The implementation previously only honored the \"no-dereference\" intent if the --force (overwrite) mode was also enabled. This flaw causes ln to follow a symbolic link that points to a directory and create new links inside that target directory instead of treating the symbolic link itself as the destination. In environments where a privileged user or system script uses ln -n to update a symlink, a local attacker could manipulate existing symbolic links to redirect file creation into sensitive directories, potentially leading to unauthorized file creation or system misconfiguration.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.0},"cwes":["CWE-61"],"references":["https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/pull/11253","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/releases/tag/0.8.0"],"products":["uutils:coreutils"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T21:38:48.864438205+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-35372","score":0.00138,"percentile":0.03199,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wq63-vh5h-pr5p","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wq63-vh5h-pr5p","summary":"uutils coreutils has a UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following issue","modified":"2026-05-05T16:26:29.509542Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"coreutils","purl":"pkg:cargo/coreutils","ranges":["<0.8.0"],"fixed":["0.8.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
