{"cve":"CVE-2026-35348","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-22T17:16:37.040","modified":"2026-10-26T21:10:00.170","status":"Analyzed","description":"The sort utility in uutils coreutils is vulnerable to a process panic when using the --files0-from option with inputs containing non-UTF-8 filenames. The implementation enforces UTF-8 encoding and utilizes expect(), causing an immediate crash when encountering valid but non-UTF-8 paths. This diverges from GNU sort, which treats filenames as raw bytes. A local attacker can exploit this to crash the utility and disrupt automated pipelines.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-248"],"references":["https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/9696","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/9696"],"products":["uutils:coreutils"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T21:38:48.864438205+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-35348","score":0.00134,"percentile":0.02885,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-f2jv-wjjc-2c94","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-f2jv-wjjc-2c94","summary":"uutils coreutils has an Uncaught Exception When Encountering Valid but Non-UTF-8 Paths","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:01.604358714Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"coreutils","purl":"pkg:cargo/coreutils","ranges":["<=0.8.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
