{"cve":"CVE-2026-35346","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-22T17:16:36.760","modified":"2026-10-26T22:10:00.163","status":"Analyzed","description":"The comm utility in uutils coreutils silently corrupts data by performing lossy UTF-8 conversion on all output lines. The implementation uses String::from_utf8_lossy(), which replaces invalid UTF-8 byte sequences with the Unicode replacement character (U+FFFD). This behavior differs from GNU comm, which processes raw bytes and preserves the original input. This results in corrupted output when the utility is used to compare binary files or files using non-UTF-8 legacy encodings.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":3.3},"cwes":["CWE-176"],"references":["https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/10192","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/pull/10206","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/releases/tag/0.6.0","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/10192"],"products":["uutils:coreutils"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T22:26:44.656832877+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-35346","score":0.00176,"percentile":0.07072,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6gcw-w7cp-94g9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6gcw-w7cp-94g9","summary":"comm: lossy UTF-8 conversion silently corrupts non-UTF-8 output","modified":"2026-07-06T20:11:29.621574Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"uu_comm","purl":"pkg:cargo/uu_comm","ranges":["<0.6.0"],"fixed":["0.6.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
