{"cve":"CVE-2026-35344","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-22T17:16:36.490","modified":"2026-10-26T00:10:00.150","status":"Analyzed","description":"The dd utility in uutils coreutils suppresses errors during file truncation operations by unconditionally calling Result::ok() on truncation attempts. While intended to mimic GNU behavior for special files like /dev/null, the uutils implementation also hides failures on regular files and directories caused by full disks or read-only file systems. This can lead to silent data corruption in backup or migration scripts, as the utility may report a successful operation even when the destination file contains old or garbage data.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":3.3},"cwes":["CWE-252"],"references":["https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/9745"],"products":["uutils:coreutils"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-26T00:31:35.753532240+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-35344","score":0.00115,"percentile":0.01554,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wh8p-h9hw-x2mc","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wh8p-h9hw-x2mc","summary":"uutils coreutils has an Unchecked Return Value Issue","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:44.848325141Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"coreutils","purl":"pkg:cargo/coreutils","ranges":["<=0.8.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
