Prior to version 4.5.90, MCPToolIndex.search_tools() compiles a caller-supplied string directly as a Python regular expression with no validation, sanitization, or timeout. A crafted regex causes catastrophic backtracking in the re engine, blocking the Python thread for hundreds of seconds and causing a complete service outage. This issue has been patched in version 4.5.90.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-1333"],"references":["https://github.com/MervinPraison/PraisonAI/security/advisories/GHSA-8w9j-hc3g-3g7f"],"products":["praison:praisonai"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:59.047572785+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-34939","score":0.00418,"percentile":0.36146,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8w9j-hc3g-3g7f","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8w9j-hc3g-3g7f","summary":"PraisonAI Has ReDoS via Unvalidated User-Controlled Regex in MCPToolIndex.search_tools()","modified":"2026-07-13T16:43:36.821649801Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"praisonai","purl":"pkg:pypi/praisonai","ranges":["<4.5.90"],"fixed":["4.5.90"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2907","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2907","summary":"PraisonAI Has ReDoS via Unvalidated User-Controlled Regex in MCPToolIndex.search_tools()","modified":"2026-07-13T16:32:35.516187260Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"praisonai","purl":"pkg:pypi/praisonai","ranges":["<4.5.90"],"fixed":["4.5.90"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
