{"cve":"CVE-2026-34779","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-04T00:16:19.213","modified":"2026-07-24T22:10:00.140","status":"Analyzed","description":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.0, and 41.0.0-beta.8, on macOS, app.moveToApplicationsFolder() used an AppleScript fallback path that did not properly handle certain characters in the application bundle path. Under specific conditions, a crafted launch path could lead to arbitrary AppleScript execution when the user accepted the move-to-Applications prompt. Apps are only affected if they call app.moveToApplicationsFolder(). Apps that do not use this API are not affected. This issue has been patched in versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.0, and 41.0.0-beta.8.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-5rqw-r77c-jp79"],"products":["electronjs:electron"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:59.047572785+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-34779","score":0.00161,"percentile":0.05258,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5rqw-r77c-jp79","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5rqw-r77c-jp79","summary":"Electron: AppleScript injection in app.moveToApplicationsFolder on macOS","modified":"2026-04-06T23:20:07.571377Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":["<38.8.6"],"fixed":["38.8.6"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=39.0.0-alpha.1 <39.8.1"],"fixed":["39.8.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=40.0.0-alpha.1 <40.8.0"],"fixed":["40.8.0"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=41.0.0-alpha.1 <41.0.0-beta.8"],"fixed":["41.0.0-beta.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
