{"cve":"CVE-2026-34778","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-04T00:16:19.060","modified":"2026-07-24T22:10:00.140","status":"Analyzed","description":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.1, and 41.0.0, a service worker running in a session could spoof reply messages on the internal IPC channel used by webContents.executeJavaScript() and related methods, causing the main-process promise to resolve with attacker-controlled data. Apps are only affected if they have service workers registered and use the result of webContents.executeJavaScript() (or webFrameMain.executeJavaScript()) in security-sensitive decisions. This issue has been patched in versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.1, and 41.0.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-290","CWE-345"],"references":["https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-xj5x-m3f3-5x3h"],"products":["electronjs:electron"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:59.047572785+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-34778","score":0.00129,"percentile":0.02513,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xj5x-m3f3-5x3h","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xj5x-m3f3-5x3h","summary":"Electron: Service worker can spoof executeJavaScript IPC replies","modified":"2026-04-06T23:20:03.666450Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":["<38.8.6"],"fixed":["38.8.6"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=39.0.0-alpha.1 <39.8.1"],"fixed":["39.8.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=40.0.0-alpha.1 <40.8.1"],"fixed":["40.8.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=41.0.0-alpha.1 <41.0.0"],"fixed":["41.0.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
