{"cve":"CVE-2026-34776","nvd":{"published":"2026-04-04T00:16:18.753","modified":"2026-07-24T22:10:00.140","status":"Analyzed","description":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.1, and 41.0.0, on macOS and Linux, apps that call app.requestSingleInstanceLock() were vulnerable to an out-of-bounds heap read when parsing a crafted second-instance message. Leaked memory could be delivered to the app's second-instance event handler. This issue is limited to processes running as the same user as the Electron app. Apps that do not call app.requestSingleInstanceLock() are not affected. Windows is not affected by this issue. This issue has been patched in versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.1, and 41.0.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-3c8v-cfp5-9885"],"products":["electronjs:electron"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:59.047572785+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-34776","score":0.00223,"percentile":0.1296,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3c8v-cfp5-9885","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3c8v-cfp5-9885","summary":"Electron: Out-of-bounds read in second-instance IPC on macOS and Linux","modified":"2026-04-06T23:20:11.001628Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":["<38.8.6"],"fixed":["38.8.6"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=39.0.0-alpha.1 <39.8.1"],"fixed":["39.8.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=40.0.0-alpha.1 <40.8.1"],"fixed":["40.8.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":[">=41.0.0-alpha.1 <41.0.0"],"fixed":["41.0.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
