Prior to version 46.0.6, DNS name constraints were only validated against SANs within child certificates, and not the \"peer name\" presented during each validation. Consequently, cryptography would allow a peer named bar.example.com to validate against a wildcard leaf certificate for *.example.com, even if the leaf's parent certificate (or upwards) contained an excluded subtree constraint for bar.example.com. This issue has been patched in version 46.0.6.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U","score":1.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-295"],"references":["https://github.com/pyca/cryptography/security/advisories/GHSA-m959-cc7f-wv43","https://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/948176"],"products":["cryptography.io:cryptography"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:18.033120106+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-34073","score":0.00223,"percentile":0.12835,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-m959-cc7f-wv43","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-m959-cc7f-wv43","summary":"cryptography has incomplete DNS name constraint enforcement on peer names","modified":"2026-09-10T03:51:00.592317622Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"cryptography","purl":"pkg:pypi/cryptography","ranges":["<46.0.6"],"fixed":["46.0.6"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-35","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-35","summary":"","modified":"2026-05-20T09:18:55.884138Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"cryptography","purl":"pkg:pypi/cryptography","ranges":["<46.0.6"],"fixed":["46.0.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
