Prior to 1.4.37, the `docker.system_packages` field in `bentofile.yaml` accepts arbitrary strings that are interpolated directly into Dockerfile `RUN` commands without sanitization. Since `system_packages` is semantically a list of OS package names (data), users do not expect values to be interpreted as shell commands. A malicious `bentofile.yaml` achieves arbitrary command execution during `bentoml containerize` / `docker build`. Version 1.4.37 fixes the issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-94"],"references":["https://github.com/bentoml/BentoML/security/advisories/GHSA-jfjg-vc52-wqvf"],"products":["bentoml:bentoml"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:28:18.033120106+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2026-33744","score":0.00261,"percentile":0.17707,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-jfjg-vc52-wqvf","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-jfjg-vc52-wqvf","summary":"BentoML has Dockerfile Command Injection via system_packages in bentofile.yaml","modified":"2026-06-08T20:15:16.553484510Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"bentoml","purl":"pkg:pypi/bentoml","ranges":["<1.4.37"],"fixed":["1.4.37"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-157","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-157","summary":"","modified":"2026-05-20T12:35:10.857901Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"bentoml","purl":"pkg:pypi/bentoml","ranges":["<1.4.37"],"fixed":["1.4.37"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
